On August 25, 2017, Rohingya refugees from Myanmar started taking refuge in Bangladesh. So the world premiere of the Rohingya film ‘Jonmobhumi’ directed by Proshun Rahman is going to be on this day. It will be shown on RTV today at 10:10 am.

‘Jonmobhumi’ was released in the theaters of the country on 14 December 2018. The story of the film is about the Rohingya refugees extradited from the Rakhine state of Myanmar in Kutupalong, Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh.

Three years ago, 8 lakh Rohingyas took refuge in this country. It is estimated that about 75,000 of them were pregnant. Many of whom have already become mothers. The rest are on their way to becoming mothers. This is the setting in the movie ‘Jonmobhumi’.

Producer Proshun Rahman said that at the center of the story of ‘Jonmobhumi’ is a pregnant woman named Sophia who does not want to give birth to her child in the refugee camp. Sophia wants to go back to her homeland by any means, to give birth to her child in her homeland. Raising her child in this crowded refugee camp, she finds no sense of joy.

Proshun said, “The next story is the current one. In that story, there are some more characters rising from the ground of reality and their own statements of the characters seen from their respective positions.

But Sophia’s journey to her homeland continues to avoid all adversity.

That journey, though expected, is perilous. But we don’t know if she succeeds.”

The film stars newcomer Saira Akhter Jahan as Sofia and Raunak Hasan as Manik. They are accompanied by Sangeeta Chowdhury, Joynal Jack, Nasir Uddin, Ankon Chakma and a special role played by German actress Pamela Kechter.

RTV Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Syed Ashiq Rahman has produced the film ‘Jonmobhumi’ under the banner of Bengal Multimedia.
