World No Tobacco Day was observed in Ulipur, Kurigram with a rally and discussion meeting organised by the Upazila Administration on Saturday. The rally started from the Upazila Parishad premises, paraded the main streets of the town, and concluded at the same spot.
Participants included teachers and students from various educational institutions, civil society members, women representatives, health workers, and officials from different departments.
Later, a discussion was held at the Upazila Parishad hall room, presided over by UNO Nayan Kumar Saha. Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid was the keynote speaker. Other speakers included Sanitary Inspector Zainul Abedin and Sub-Assistant Public Health Engineer Nityananda Barman. Speakers emphasized that tobacco is a deadly curse not only for individuals but also for families and society. Preventive measures must be taken now to protect future generations. They called for united efforts from educational institutions, families, and media to raise awareness and say no to tobacco.
