Earlier, the government had declared MujibBorshofrom17 March 2020 to 26 March 2021. But due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the programmes for Mujib Borsho could not be held on time. Therefore, the government announced an extension of the Mujib Borsho till 16 December next year.

Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said Indian Prime Minister might attend the function on March 26, 2020.  Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen also said Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has invited the Indian PM to visit Bangladesh for participating in the launching of the joint commemoration of golden jubilee of the independence of Bangladesh and the establishment of bilateral relations between the two countries. He said that Modi has accepted the invitation.

It may be recalled that Modi was scheduled to visit Dhaka on March 17 to join in the birth centenary functions. The visit was, however, postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak.

Moreover, Turkish Anadolu Agency, quoting Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, on December 23 said Turkish president RecepTayyip Erdogan might come to Dhaka on March 26, 2020 on the occasion of the ‘Golden Jubilee of the Independence of Bangladesh.
