In the light of the theme 'Safe World, Ensured Health', a discussion was organized in Jamalpur on the occasion of World Health Day on the initiative of Area Health Program (AP) being implemented by the Government Health Department as well as Unnayan Sangha and World Vision.  It was chaired by Sagar de Costa, Manager, World Vision Area Program.

The keynote speaker was Jahangir Selim, Human Resource Development Director of Unnayan Sangha. Biswajit Kumar Saha, FPC Coordinator of World Vision, Minara Parveen, AP Manager of Unnayan Sangha and others spoke at the discussion held at the meeting room of Jamalpur Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Office on April 8.  The meeting was attended by hundreds of delegates including employees working under AP, volunteers, members of village and urban development committee.

At the end of the procession, a discussion meeting was held highlighting the theme and significance of the day.

From covid-19 to heart disease, asthma, diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure and other deadly diseases, the whole human race is under threat.  Speakers fear that excessive use of groundwater has caused the water level to plummet.  At present most of the tube wells in Jamalpur are not getting water.  The crisis of free flowing water is also increasing as the reservoirs are being filled.  In addition, indiscriminate deforestation, mismanagement of waste, and a tendency to disregard hygiene have led to an increase in the incidence of various diseases.

In this case, there is no alternative to health awareness.  On the other hand, World Health Day is being celebrated this time by emphasizing on the importance of attracting the attention of the world and building a benevolent society in the belief of protecting and keeping mankind safe from the deadly diseases caused by environmental pollution.
