World Environment Day observed in Jamalpur

Jamalpur Administration and District Environment Office organised a colourful programme to observe World Environment Day in Jamalpur on Wednesday.

A procession was brought out from Heroic Freedom Fighter Abdul Aziz Chattar at 9:00am and paraded different roads of the town on this occasion. A discussion and was also held at the conference room of deputy commissioner.

Deputy Commissioner of the district M Sofiur Rahman was present at the discussion as the chief guest. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Saiful Islam presided over the programme.

Additional Police Superintendent Masud Anwar, Chief Executive Officer of the District Administration Munmun Jahan Liza, Heroic Freedom Fighter Sujayat Ali Fakir, Assistant Director of the district environment office Sukumar Saha, Human Resource Director of Unnayan Sangha and president of Jamalpur Poribesh Rokkha Andolon Jahangir Selim, Manager of Jesmin project of World Vision Asim Chaterjee, Convener of environment affairs committee Monowara Khanom and others also spoke at the discussion.

More than 150 representatives of different government and non-government organisations took part at the programme. After the discussion, prizes were distributed among the winners of environment-related drawing competition.

Jamalpur Deputy Commi­ss­ioner M Sofiur Rahman said the ecological balance is facing a threat due to the consumption, luxury and greed of the people. People are grabbing and polluting rivers, canals, beel, etc. Many irresponsible people are recklessly cutting trees. So, natural disasters are being experienced frequently. All have to come forward to get rid of this situation. Everyone has to plant saplings and take care of those.

Around 15 lakh saplings will be planted in Sadar Upazila by this year, he added.
