The Chittagong University Debating Society (CUDS) and the Department of Environment (DOE) held the closing ceremony of the World Environment Day Inter-University Debate Festival on Saturday at the CU Fine Arts Institute with the slogan 'Only One Earth'.
Chittagong University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Shirin Akhter was present as the Chief Guest. Among the distinguished guests present on the occasion were CU Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Benu Kumar Dey, Additional Divisional Commissioner, Chittagong Joint-Secretary Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Environment Department Chittagong Region Director Mufidul Alam, Environment Department Chittagong Director Hillol Biswas, Reckitt Benckiser South Asia Regional Supply Director Pradeep Krishnamurthy, Reckitt Benckiser BD-SL Supply Head Zia Uddin, Bankizar (BD) PLC Mohammad Wahiduzzaman. The event was presided over by CUDS Moderator CU Law Department Professor ABM Abu Noman. CUDS member Jannatul Naeem conducted the program.
The semi-final and final round debates were held in the concluding debate competition. In the final round, Shah Jalal University of Science and Technology defeated Debating Society and Chittagong University Debating Society became the champion.
22 teams from different universities across the country including Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi and Sylhet participated in the debate competition.
CU VC said the debate teaches people to be rational. Argument is not for the sake of argument; One of the goals of the debate is to present the truth through eloquence, fluent presentation and reasoning.
Through discussion, mutual cooperation, sympathy, sincerity and amicable relationship are formed among the students. CUDS members need to continue to be creative as well as enlightened people by continuing such creative activities.
