World conference on tech starts today in Dhaka

The 25th edition of the World Congress on Information Technology, a four-day World Conference on Information and Communication Technology, will be held in Bangladesh on November 11 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center on the theme 'ICT the Great Equalizer'.

The programme will be available online which can be attended from anywhere in the world. The Asia-Oceania International Conference Association 'Digital Summit 2021' will be held at the same time in parallel with the WCIT 2021 conference. The entire event will be held in a hybrid model combining physical and virtual.

The conference is being jointly organized by the Department of Information and Communication Technology, Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) and Bangladesh Computer Society at the initiative of The World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA). BASIS, BACCO, E-CAB and ISPAB are the partners of this event.

The Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak said this at a press conference at the Bangladesh Computer Council auditorium at ICT Tower in Agargaon of the capital. President Mohammad Abdul Hamid will inaugurate the World Conference on November 11 at noon at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) as the chief guest.

Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the Prime Minister's Adviser on ICT, will be the virtual speaker at the November 11 ministerial conference. There will also be physical and virtual foreign ministers involved.

On the occasion of the birth centenary celebrations of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on November 12, the initiatives taken by Bangabandhu to take the country forward in independent sovereign state and information technology will be presented. On this day, various individuals and organizations who have made special contribution in the field of information technology in Asia-Oceania region will be honored at the 'Associate Award Night'.

On the evening of November 13, honors will be given to individuals, government and non-government organizations around the world for their outstanding contributions to information technology.

On November 14, the closing day of the event, WCIT's Silver Jubilee will be celebrated. 

At the press conference, State Minister for ICT said that every school and government office in the village would be connected to broadband internet. All kinds of technology services will be delivered to the remote island. He said that the achievements of Bangladesh towards building a digital Bangladesh in the last 13 years have created an opportunity to brand the country as 'Digital Bangladesh' through this conference.

He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the visionary of Digital Bangladesh, had announced a historic vision, which was that when Bangladesh celebrates the golden jubilee of independence in 2021, Bangladesh will be a technology-based digital Bangladesh. 

Under the able leadership of Sajeeb Wazed Joy, ICT Advisor to the Prime Minister, Architect of Digital Bangladesh, and Bangladesh has been transformed into Digital Bangladesh in just 12 years. He said that by using the power of ICT, the modern look of Bangabandhu's dream of exploitation-free Sonar Bangla, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Digital Bangladesh is no longer a fantasy but a reality.

The press conference was chaired by NM Ziaul Alam, senior secretary of the ICT department, among others, the executive director of the Bangladesh Computer Council. Md. Abdul Mannan, BCS President Md. Shahid-ul-Munir. Mr. James H. Poissant, Secretary General of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance, also spoke at the event.
