An orientation workshop for journalists was held in Meherpur on Monday ahead of the upcoming Typhoid Vaccination Campaign 2025. The event took place at the conference room of the Islamic Foundation at 11am, under the project titled Awareness Campaign on Child, Adolescent and Women Development.

The workshop was presided over by Dr Mohammad Abdul Salam, Deputy Commissioner of Meherpur. It was jointly organised by the Department of Mass Communication and the District Information Office, with support from UNICEF Bangladesh.

Distinguished guests included Tarek Mohammad, Deputy Director of the Department of Mass Communication; Dr Abu Sayeed, Civil Surgeon of Meherpur; Abdullah Al Mamun, District Information Officer; and AKM Sirajum Munir, Deputy Director of the Islamic Foundation.

Journalists from both print and electronic media working in the district participated in the day-long orientation. The workshop discussed the importance of raising awareness and encouraging parents to vaccinate their children.

The nationwide Typhoid Vaccination Campaign is scheduled to begin on 12 October. Children aged between 9 months and 15 years will receive a single dose of the vaccine. In Meherpur district alone, more than 167,000 children are expected to be brought under this immunisation programme.

Medical experts said that the campaign will significantly reduce the risk of typhoid among children. They also highlighted preventive measures and called upon families to actively participate and ensure their children are vaccinated.
