Workshop on PL account implementation held at UGC

A workshop on implementation of personal ledger account in the University Grants Commission and public universities of the country held in the UGC auditorium on Thursday.

UGC and finance ministry’s iBAS++ programme jointly organised the day-long workshop, said a press release.

Vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor, treasurer, director of finance and accounts department from different universities across the country and UGC officials participated in the workshop, said a press release.

UGC chairman (additional charge) professor Muhammad Alamgir in his speech as chief guest said that UGC and public universities of the country were established by separate laws and as autonomous institutions, it was recommended for them to follow the existing financial regulations for allocation and exemption of funds.

However, transparency and accountability must be ensured in the expenditure of allocated funds and for that the prevailing financial rules of the government should be followed properly, he added.

UGC member professor Md Abu Taher presided over the event where another member of the commission professor Md Sajjad Hossain, additional secretary of the education ministry AKM Aftab Hossain Pramanik, additional secretary of the finance ministry Bilquis Jahan Rimi, UGC secretary Ferdous Zaman, secretary of secondary and higher education Noor-E-Alam spoke.

Also, Rajshahi University VC professor Golam Shabbir Sattar, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology VC professor Farid Uddin Ahmed, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology VC professor Habibur Rahman, Jashore University of Science and Technology VC Anwar Hossain, Pabna University of Science and Technology VC professor Hafiza Khatun spoke in the programme.

UGC member prof Md Abu Taher conducted an open session in the workshop.

Joint secretary of finance department and senior consultant of iBAS++ programme Abul Bashar Mohammad Amin Uddin presented the keynote on implementation of PL Accounts in public universities.

The meeting accepted a proposal to form a committee headed by UGC to further review the implementation of PL accounts in public universities. Further decision regarding this will be taken on the recommendation of the committee.
