An exchange of views and consultation workshop was held at Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon in the capital to develop a people oriented National Adaptation Plan (NAP) on Thursday.
Participants in the workshop analyzed and discussed ways to make the national adaptation plandraft more effective. The workshop was attended by senior officials from various ministries and agencies, UNDP and NAP Preparatory Committee.
Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change secretary Md. Mustafa Kamal speaking as the chief guest said, “In order to formulate a people-oriented plan, the team formed by the NAP, including the team leader, has been exchanging views with people from different walks of life, including the people of the coastal and hilly areas of the country. Public opinion will be taken into consideration before finalizing the formulation of NAP.”
The workshop was chaired by Md. MizanulHaque Chowdhury, National Project Director, NAP Preparation Project and Additional Secretary to the Ministry. Dr. Abdul Hamid, Director General, Department of Environment, Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, Additional Secretary, Keya Khan, Additional Secretary, Prosenjit Chakma, Assistant Resident Representative of UNDP Bangladesh spoke as special guests.
The draft adaptation planpresented at the workshop by Professor EmeritusDr. AinunNishat , Team Leader, NAP Preparation Team and Malik Fida A Khan, Executive Director, Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services.
