A three-day workshop on Dhamail dance and music came to an end, followed by a closing ceremony on Sunday, at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.
Organised by BSA and planned by its director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, a number 25 artists took part in the three-day workshop. Devdas Chowdhury Rangan from Sunamganj, the birthplace of Dhamail songs, conducted classes on Dhamail music while Tulika Ghosh Chowdhury conducted classes on dance.
On the closing day, participants performed Dhamail dances with seven songs titled ‘Tomra Ason Sajaogo’, ‘Amar Bondhu Doyamoy’, ‘Banshit Dhoira Marlo Taan’, ‘Shyamer Banshi’, ‘Ami Shadh Kore Porechhi Gole’, ‘Ami Ki Herilam Joler Ghate’ and ‘Milon Hoilogo Brindabon’.
Tulika Ghosh said in her speech of an instructor, “Now, we live in a smart era. Our traditional cultural performances are not part of any specific culture or nation. So, we can all celebrate our culture together.”
“Dhamail dance and music are usually performed by the women, but I want both women and men to perform it without any discrimination. So, we included men in this training”, she added.
