A two-day long scientific workshop on ‘Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Air Quality of the Monsoon Asia Region’ begins on Tuesday (June 06, 2023) at the seminar room of the Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences of Dhaka University (DU).
DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest. Dhaka University, University Kebangsaan Malaysia, ‘International Global Atmospheric Chemistry-Monsoon Asia and Oceania Networking Group (IGAC-MANGO)’ and ‘Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research’ have jointly organized this workshop, says a press release.
Presided over by President of Workshop Organizing Committee Prof. Dr. Abdus Salam the inaugural function was addressed by Dean of DU Science Faculty Prof. Dr. Md. Abdus Samad, Chairman of Chemistry Department Prof. Dr. Qamrul Ehsan and Co-Chair of IGAC-MANGO Dr. Hiroshi Tanimoto.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal emphasized on conducting more fundamental researches to mitigate air pollution. He said, economic and development activities as well as public health will be affected in the developing countries especially in Bangladesh if pragmatic steps are not taken to eliminate air pollution. Recommendations of this workshop would play an important role to reduce air pollution and combat climate change, he hoped.
Researches, teachers and students from different leading university of 13 countries are participating at this workshop.
