Works on 44 EGPP Plus projects begin in Ukhia

2,380 men and women get temporary jobs at Tk 500 daily wage

Work on 44 projects under the Employment Generation Programme for the Poorest (EGPP Plus) has begun in Ukhia upazila of Cox’s Bazar, creating temporary employment for 2,380 unskilled men and women at a daily wage of Tk 500. The projects have been allocated Tk 12.25 crore.

The projects were inaugurated simultaneously on Sunday (October 4) in five unions — Rajapalong, Haldia Palong, Ratna Palong, Palongkhali and Jaliapalong — under an initiative of the Department of Disaster Management and the upazila administration.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Abu Abdullah inaugurated work in Wards 3, 4 and 5 of Rajapalong Union as the chief guest.

Upazila Project Implementation Officer’s Office Sub-Assistant Engineer Gias Uddin, acting chairman of Rajapalong Union Parishad Mir Sahedul Islam Chowdhury Roman and project-related officials were present.

According to the Upazila Project Implementation Officer’s Office, the programme is being implemented under the BCRS project in the 2026–2027 fiscal year. It aims to enhance the disaster preparedness, self-reliance and community resilience of local people.

Upazila Project Implementation Officer ATM Kawser Ahmed said the programme would facilitate the construction of internal roads in backward rural areas and renovation of grounds and cemeteries of various educational and religious institutions.

The temporary employment programme is aimed at providing income opportunities to poor and unemployed people while improving local infrastructure in the participating unions. #EK
