State Minister of Labour and Employment, Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, assured that workers across all sectors, including garments, will receive their salaries along with festival allowances before the Eid-ul-Azha holiday.
The minister made this announcement following a tripartite advisory council meeting concerning the RMG sector at Shram Bhaban on Wednesday.
He emphasised that decisions regarding Eid payments would be made through discussions and mutual agreement between employers and workers to ensure workers' holidays are both extended and comfortable, with no terminations or factory closures before Eid.
Chowdhury highlighted the resolution of labour issues through collabourative efforts among the government, workers, and employers, with ongoing efforts to introduce a rationing system.
The agenda of the meeting included a comprehensive review of the labor landscape in the industrial sector, followed by discussions on various aspects related to Eid-ul-Azha.
Topics such as working conditions, worker safety, and the enforcement of minimum wage standards in the garment sector were addressed at the meeting.
Representatives from the Bangladesh Employers Federation, the Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association, and the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association are among the attendees. Also present are representatives from the National Labour League, the Bangladesh National Garments Workers' League, the National Labour Union, and the National Labour Federation.
In addition, Abdur Rahim Khan, the inspector general of the factory and institution inspection department, director general of the labour department Tarikul Alam, additional secretary Jahangir Hossain, and secretary of the ministry of labour and employment Mahbub Hossain attended the meeting.
Addressing the participants at the outset, the state minister emphasized the importance of these discussions to anticipate any issues regarding salaries, bonuses, and holidays.
Expressing optimism, he anticipated productive deliberations.
