Rashed Khan Menon, president of the Workers Party of Bangladesh, has been arrested from his Gulshan residence in Dhaka.
The arrest took place around 5:15 PM on Thursday, according to Mostafa Alamgir, a party leader.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrest but provided no further details.
Menon's arrest is linked to a case involving recent clashes between protesters and law enforcement agencies. The Workers Party, part of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance, was in power for 16 years. Menon previously served as minister for civil aviation and social welfare.
