Noor Mohammad (55), an employee (lineman) of Power Development Board Sales and Distribution Division 2, died on the spot due to electrocution while on duty in Kewatkhali area of Mymensingh city on Monday noon.
He died while working on an electric pole in Kewatkhali bypass of the city as electricity on the other line was live, said the electricity workers.
Confirming the death of Noor Mohammad, OC Mohammad Mainuddin of Kotwali Model Police Station said that Noor Mohammad, an employee (lineman) of Sales and Distribution Division -2 of Electricity Development Board (PDB) was electrocuted while he was working on the Padri Mission feeder line along with his colleagues. Seriously injured Noor Mohammad was taken to Mymensingh Medical College where the onduty doctor pronounced him dead. The body was taken to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
The accident took place around 1 pm when the power was cut off at the Padri Mission feeder at 11:18 am. After that, electricity was restored after 5:00 p.m.
All the electricity workers went to the hospital. Some feeders are closed for 6 hours.
PDB sales and distribution department 2 formed a 4-member investigation committee headed by executive engineer. The committee has been asked to submit its report to Chief Engineer, PDB Mymensingh within 7 working days.
Electricity department employee Noor Mohammad's village home is in Boylar village of Trishal upazila of Mymensingh district. His death has cast a shadow of grief among the employees working in the power department.
Mymensingh City Corporation Mayor and Metropolitan Awami League President Md. Ikramul Haque Titu, President of Mymensingh Chamber of Commerce and Industry has issued a condolence messages to the bereaved family members and sought solvation of the departed soul of the deceased. The statement was signed by District Awami League Vice President Md Aminul Haque Shamim CIP, PDB Mymensingh Region Chief Engineer Md Habibur Rahman, PDB Mymensingh Region Supervising Engineer AKM Jaseem Uddin and Mymensingh Divisional Press Club General Secretary Md Nazrul Islam etc.
