Minister for ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative Md. Tazul Islam on Thursday said all concerned have to work together in a comprehensive way for continuation of ongoing massive development activities in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Irrespective of nation, caste, creed and religion, we are the citizens of this country and we should have worked unitedly for the welfare of countrymen. If we could able to do so, then we would get Bangladesh as a developed country in the world in future.
LGRD minister was addressing an opinion exchange meeting with the elected representatives of three Hill District Councils, municipalities, upazila and union parishads (UPs) at the auditorium of Khudra Nrigosti Sangskritik Institute in Rangamati as the chief guest.
LGRD ministry organised the meeting. Referring, LGRD minister further said that as prime minister all the time very sincere and loved the people in the hilly region that’s why she made the landmark Chittagong Hill Tracts accord in 1997 and brought peace in the area. She (PM) solved the longstanding problem amicably in hills without any bloodshed.
Aiming at public representatives, Tazul urged them to work in a coordinated way by maintaining good relation with administration for betterment of the people. He suggested mayors, chairmen of upazila and union parishads (UPs) to utilise their resources rightly to create more own income sources for the sake of strengthening development works. He assured that he would try to solve all problems of the public representatives in hills.
Earlier, elected representatives from three hill districts raised their different demands and problems including fund constraints, distance between upazila parishad and upazila administration, increase of allowances and making more functional the local government institutions.
As special guest, minister for CHT affairs ministry Bir Bahadur Ushwe Shing MP said all public representatives in hills are always ready to cooperate the government to uphold ongoing massive upliftment activities. Currently, development works of Tk 10,000 crores is being implemented in CHT region.
Bahadur urged all concerned authorities to maintain smooth coordination in executing development schemes for the interest of accelerating ongoing development activities in hilly areas. Dipanker TalukderMP was also the special guest while senior secretary of LGRD ministry Helaluddin Ahmad chaired the meeting.
