Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen on Monday urged all concerned to work in a coordinated way to face new health threat of antibiotic resistance which is spreading in humans as well as in animals.

“Antibiotic resistance is now a new ominous sign in health sector across the globe. It has been rapidly spreading in human beings as well  in animals,” he said while addressing a programme at BRAC Centre in the capital.

Expressing concern over the issue, he urged the authorities concerned of all public and private sectors to work together to deal with the new health threat.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is also giving her utmost importance to the issue as she is co-chairing the Global Leaders Group on Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR), he said.

The health minister has also stressed the need for raising awareness among the people on breast and cervical cancer.

“A breast cancer patient sees a physician at a stage when the doctors have nothing to do. Meanwhile, the disease is curable if it is diagnosed at an early stage,” he said.

“Similarly, many patients with cleft lip and palate are seen roaming in rural areas. They also do not get the proper treatment,” he added.

The minister expressed resentment over the lack of coordination in health sector.

“There has been some notable activities in the health sector of the country. But, a lack of coordination is seen in some contexts. People will be benefited if the public and private organisations work in a coordinated way ,” he said.

State minister for health Rokeya Sultana and senior officials of health ministry and BRAC were also present at the programme.
