Work on Tk 3,100cr RMU project nears completion

Rajshahi Medical University, the second Medical University of the country, is going to start its academic, research and medicare activities in the full fledges soon. A project amounting Tk 3,100 crore for the development of RMU is likely to be placed at the ECNEC soon. 

In addition to academic and research, the university will also operate a 1,200 bed hospital. As a result, RMU is expected to play a vital role in spreading medical education as well as treating patients in the country. 

RMU sources informed, the DPP of the project has been finalized and the estimated cost at the DPP has been earmarked as Tk 3,100 crore. The project will be completed in two phases and the project cost for the first phase of work has been estimated at Tk 2,000 crore. 

The first phase of the project will contain the construction of the Academic Building, Administrative Building, Hospital, School and Day-care center. The 1,200 bed hospital under RMU will be a specialised hospital treating patients suffering from complex and almost incurable, irremediable diseases. The hospital is being constructed on 68 acres of land under Rajshahi city corporation area. 

Dr AZM Mostaque Hossain, Vice-Chancellor of RMU informed, the works of RMU projects are continuing rapidly. He hoped the project of RMU will get approval during this month of May and with the approval of the project, the works of infrastructure development will start soon.  He further informed, due to the efficiency of the Registrar office of RMU, the academic activities of some 12,000 students of 80 Medical, Nursing, Dental colleges and other associate institutions are continuing successfully. 

The works of inspection of colleges have been regularized and a huge outstanding salary of employees and staff has been paid. He added, transparency and accountability in case of appointing expert and experienced manpower in accordance with the approved rules of University Grants Commission has been ensured to conduct administrative and academic activities of the varsity smoothly. 

He further mentioned, the varsity has recovered the thwarted academic activities during the Covid-19 pandemic and due to efficient activities of the Controller of Examina­tions department officials, RMU is running one-year forward than other universities.  A separate Nursing Institute will also be set up in the campus to create efficient nurses.

All government and private medical colleges, Dental Colleges, Nursing Colleges, Institute of Health Technologies of Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna divisions have been affiliated under RMU. 

There are 13 government medical colleges, 13 private medical colleges, 2 government and 5 private dental colleges, six government and 31 private nursing colleges, one government and two private health education technology institutes and 74 affiliated institutions under the RMU. 

RMU is also conducting the MBBS courses, BDS, Physiotherapy and Unani Medicine and Surgery courses  successfully from the 2017-'18 academic year. 

All activities of the varsity are being conducted digitally. Moreover, this is for the first time, RMU has started to conduct examinations through the coding and decoding process which has ensured transparency and accountability of activities of the varsity. 

The post graduation courses and M.Phil. Ph.D courses will also be started under eight faculties of the varsity, informed RMU sources.
