Work of model mosque remains stalled for a year

Construction work of Tarash Upazila Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center in Sirajganj has been stopped on the pretext of increasing the price of rods and lack of funds. As there is no progress in the construction of Tarash Upazila Model Samjid and Islamic Cultural Center in the whole country, there is extreme anger among the people of the town.

According to the relevant sources and on the ground, the construction work of 100 Upazila Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centers in the 1st phase across the country (1st phase) started in 2019 which also included the construction work at the Shaheed Minar intersection in Tarash Upazila. An organization called Project Implementation Ltd. got the construction work of the model mosque at an initial cost of around Tk 13 crore in the tender of the Public Works Department. Mizanur Rahman Majnu, Hossain Ali, Mohammad Ali Mintu, Abul Bashar and many others expressed their displeasure and said that the construction work of 1st phase Upazila Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center has been completed and the adjoining Chatmohar Upazila has been inaugurated but further construction work has not been done yet. Secretary of Markaz Mosque Md Shihab Uddin Sarkar said the concerned administration should look into the matter of stopping the construction work of the model mosque for a long time. Selim Hossain, the manager of Project Implementation Ltd in this regard said that the construction work has been stopped due to increase in the price of rod and lack of funds. Work may begin next January. In this regard, Tarash Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mesbaul Karim said that he did not know about the stoppage of the construction work of the model mosque and he would take action to find out.
