Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday asked the secretaries of all the ministries and divisions to come out of the conventional thoughts in running the administration for building a new Bangladesh.
“Coming out of conventional thoughts, the activities of the administration must be carried out in creative ways keeping public interest on the top of everything in building new Bangladesh,” he told the top bureaucrats at a meeting at the Chief Adviser’s Office (CAO) in the capital.
It is the Chief Adviser’s first meeting with the bureaucrats after his assumption of office on August 8 following the fall of Sheikh Hasina-led government on August 5 amid a mass upsurge.
“The highest satisfaction of the people should be achieved by rooting out corruption and easing services,” the Chief Adviser’s press wing quoted him as issuing directives to the secretaries at the meeting.
Issuing a ‘marching order’ to the secretaries to adopt and implement reform programmes at all levels of government, Dr Yunus said a new Bangladesh must be built by ensuring honesty, devotion and accountability in all fields in line with the pledge made by the student-people in the July-August uprising.
“Fair competition must be maintained in public procurement and existing obstacles must be removed to ensure transparency and accountability,” he said.
He said discussions should take place and opinions need to be received from the people concerned in formulating the reform programme.
The Chief Adviser also instructed all the ministries and divisions to submit time-bound action plans for short-term, medium-term and long-term reform programmes with creative and citizen-friendly mindset, which will be evaluated and monitored on a regular basis.
He said the interest and positive perception that have been created worldwide about the new Bangladesh after the student-people revolution must be utilised in the best way for the sake of the country.
