Awami League MP from Dhaka-10 constituency and country’s eminent film actor Ferdous Ahmed has praised the activities of Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust (WBB Trust).
“The activities of the WBB Trust in protecting public health are highly commendable. Tobacco control and non-communicable disease control as well as promoting mental and physical health are truly desirable, as are park protection and area-based socialization opportunities. I wish them success,” he said.
Ferdous Ahmed made the comments after joining the WBB Trust’s 25 years anniversary event held at its office in the capital on Monday (January 22).
WBB Trust’s program head Syeda Anonna Rahman and senior project manager Ziaur Rahman jointly moderated the daylong event, while adviser of the WBB Trust Debra Efroymson delivered the welcome speech.
Former MP of Gaibandha-1 constituency Barrister Shameem Haider Patwari, former Civil Surgeon Officer Mushfiqur Rahman, Senior Health Education Officer Md Mohsin Mia, chairman of Pathikrit Foundation Professor Dr. Liaquat Ali, chairman of Save the Environment Movement Abu Naser Khan, president of Bangladesh Institute of Planners Adil Mohammad Khan, president of Civil Rights Protection Forum Hafizur Rahman Maina, adviser of DAS Aminul Islam Bakul, president of Green Voice Mezbaur Rahman Sumon, vice presidenst of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpiklugan Jamsed Anwar Tapan and Shivani Bhattacharya, social worker Syeda Ratna and representatives of various organisations took part in the event. The invited guests at the event said that since its inception, WBB Trust has been working to create public awareness for the protection of public health and environment and is also contributing to building a beautiful, healthy and inclusive city through strong advocacy to the government. A great strength of the WWB Trust is its strong support from a nationwide network of organisations.
The speakers of the WBB Trust’s programme called upon the people to continue their activities to build a beautiful Bangladesh from their respective positions. The WBB Trust has been working as a support organisation for 25 years to adopt and implement policies necessary to protect public health and environment. In collaboration with 250 active networks across the country, the organisation continues to carry out strong activities in tobacco control, health, environment, urban transport and planning, water resource conservation and ensuring economic and social equity. The cooperation of various public and private organisations has led WBB Trust to achieve this milestone.
WBB Trust has many achievements in its long journey of 25 years. Among them, playing a role in the formulation of tobacco control law, DAP (2022-2035), area-based mobile playground for socialization opportunities, construction of five small-scale parks, development of Bangladesh Railway and playing a role in the creation of separate ministries, celebration of private car-free day, ensuring safe food, 16 farmers markets in Dhaka city.
