The Woolmark Company, in collaboration with Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), organized the Woolmark Knitwear Seminar in Dhaka on Sunday, bringing together prominent leaders and stakeholders from Bangladesh’s textile and apparel industry. The seminar was held at a city hotel in Dhaka.
The seminar focused on the growing role of wool and wool-rich blends in Bangladesh’s knitwear sector, emphasizing product diversification, value addition, innovation, and strengthening the industry’s global competitiveness.
The event was attended by Clinton Pobke, Deputy Head of Mission of the Australian High Commission; Mohammad Hatem, President of BKMEA; and M. Riaz Hamidullah, Indian High Commissioner, along with senior officials from The Woolmark Company and representatives from the textile and apparel sector.
As one of the world’s leading knitwear exporters, Bangladesh is well-positioned to expand into higher-value and technologically advanced product categories. Speakers at the seminar highlighted how wool can support this transformation by enabling manufacturers to access premium international markets and meet the growing global demand for natural and sustainable fibers.
Representatives from The Woolmark Company shared insights on global demand trends, emerging market opportunities, and the benefits of wool in modern apparel manufacturing. The seminar also highlighted the potential of Australian Merino wool and its increasing relevance in the international knitwear market.
Industry partners, including Indorama, presented perspectives on yarn innovation, sustainable sourcing, and developments within the wool supply chain.
Leading Bangladeshi manufacturers also shared their experiences as Woolmark partners, showcasing successful applications of wool in knitwear production and presenting local industry case studies.
