Women UP members carry out development activities independently

The people living in rural villages have been moving on metal roads as against muddy ones and the women reserved seat members of the union parishad (UP) have been dealing their activities independently. Now the people remote villages can get justice in the rural court titled as Gram Adalat. They can move ea silyon metal roads to cast their votes in the nearing polling centres smoothly. It has been reducing the cases following dowry, divorce, multi marriage, land, village rivalry and so, said some of the elected women representatives, ward members, Gram police (Chowkider and Dafaders).

When this correspondent visited Dhalaharachandra UP about 11 kilometres from Shailkupa upazila headquarters, talked to a number of people including the elected representatives. The 30 square kilometre length UP involving 27 villages at east side of Gorai River and accommodate 34,576 people including 17,400 female availing 65 percent metal roads, while remaining yet muddy. Three weekly markets, better known as Hat-bazer have been providing services where the literacy rate was 75 percent, said the UP office sources. 

Although the locals said huge rural roads are still muddy that did not remove their troublers yet. The farmers face untold sufferings when they start for selling their produces in the markets. It should be constructed as metal for the interest of the farmers. 

In the other hand farmer Akram Hossain of Kashinathpur village said their children have been attending school on pitch rads which was a dream for them about three years back. It has reduced their time and sufferings on the way. 

Reserved women seat members of the UP Bulbuli Khatun, Hiramon Begum and Aklima Khatun said they were elected through electronic voter machine (EVM in January last. As the president of project implementation committee (PIC), they have been monitoring the activities themselves. Another woman member, elected for the second time said the cases of dowry, divorce and multi marriage were reduced remarkably. Each and every one in the society protest the matters, while some of the guardians have been arranging marriage of the immature daughters appearing in the court. 

They said disparity between men and women has been reducing gradually as the male ones had been dominating for centuries together. Now their male counterparts have been showing honour to them. Stating the pitiable conditions of some of the rural roads, the women members added huge roads in their wards are muddy that hampers the smooth movement of the people including school children, they, said.

Chowkider (Gram Police) Shipon Biswas said he has been involved in collecting information about birth, death, social rivalry, suicide, distribution of VGF, VGD, elderly allowances, widow allowance etc. from each and every corner of his territory. They keep close contact with the UP chairman and ward members. Gram police also guards the UP complex once a week and attend the weekly meeting at local thana head quarters.

UP secretary Shariful Islam said the UP building turned to an one stop service centre to the people as local conflicts are solved in primary mediation with both petitioner and accused. It cost nothing while each and every party is satisfied here. 

UP chairman Matiar Rahman when contacted said as the road condition was improved and internet connection was available at the union level, people have been benefited staying in the remote villages.  They have been provided birth registration, death certificates, successors’ certificate and other services whenever they desire.a
