A woman tried to commit suicide by taking poison after killing her one-year-old girl in Dhaka's Gandaria area on Tuesday morning. The deceased was identified as Jannat, daughter of Sonia Akhter, 30 of the area. Sonia's husband Anwar Hossain, a security guard, said, "Sonia tried to commit suicide after killing her daughter Jannat by feeding her pesticide. She telephoned me and told about this."
Hearing the news, Anwar came home and found that the duo were lying on the floor. They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where Jannat was declared dead. DMCH police outpost in-charge Bachchu Miah said the body was kept at the hospital morgue,. Sonia is now undergoing treatment at the hospital.
