A woman was fatally stabbed by her ex-husband in the premises of the Dharmapasha Senior Judicial Magistrate Court in Sunamganj on Monday afternoon. The victim, Sharifa Akter (28), was the daughter of Ramzan Ali from Deothan village in Mohanganj upazila, Netrokona.
According to police, Sharifa married Akter Hossain from Dharmapasha about ten years ago, and the couple had a three-and-a-half-year-old daughter. However, due to ongoing family disputes, they divorced six months ago. Akter later filed a court case seeking custody of their daughter.
On the day of the hearing, an argument broke out between the two over the child’s custody. In a fit of rage, Akter Hossain stabbed his former wife in front of the court building and tried to flee, but locals apprehended him.
Sharifa was first taken to Dharmapasha Upazila Health Complex and later referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Police have arrested the accused and seized the weapon.
