A body of a 32-year-old woman was recovered from a field in Chuadanga's Darshana area on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Monzura Khatun, daughter of Arman Hossain of Mohammadpur village of Darshana municipality.
Confirming the incident, Zakia Sultana, assistant superintendent of Chuadanga police, said her body was sent to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Quoting locals and family, police said a group of criminals came to the house of Monzura's brother Alamgir Hossain.
They took Alamgir at gunpoint to a neighbouring field and tied his hands and feet. When Monzura protested, they took her to the field and assaulted her.
