Woman killed by grandson in Barishal

An elderly woman was killed by her grandson in Barisal. The incident took place at Baradulali village of the upazila around 7:30 pm on Monday. The deceased was identified as Zarina Begum (65), widow of Saheb Ali Bepari of the village.

Witnesses said Zarina Begum, a widow of Baradulali village in the upazila, has six daughters. Widow Zarina’s youngest daughter Laiju Begum’s family live with her. On Monday morning, Laiju Begum gave some mango from her father’s mango tree, to her cousin’s daughter Yamin Khanam (13).

When Laiju’s another sister Fatema Begum came to know about the matter, she came to Laiju’s house around 7.30 pm and asked her sister why she (Fatema) was not given her fair share of mangoes. At that time, Fatima and her son Bachchu Bepari got into an argument with Laiju. At one stage, clash struck between them.

At that time Bachchu Bepari tried to hit his aunt Laiju Begum with a stick. Grandmother Zarina Begum, who had come to stop the clash, got hit by her grandson Bachchu’s stick,  she immediately fell to the ground and died on the spot.

Gournadi Model Police Station OC Golam Chharwar said, “Widow Zarina Begum fell to the ground and died on the spot. After receiving the news, Zarina’s body was recovered around 10 pm and Laiju was brought to the police station for questioning. Preparations are underway to file a murder case in this regard.”
