Woman, her 2 children killed in Cox’s Bazar landslide

Three people were killed in a land slide in Pekua upazila of Cox’s Bazar district on Sunday. They include a mother and her two children.

The incident occurred in Jarul Bunia Segunbagicha area under ward no. 6 in Shilkhali union of Pekua upazila on Sunday around 4 am.

The deceased were identified as Momtaj Begum, 32, wife of Md Sarwar Ali, resident of 

Jarul Bunia Segunbagicha 

area in Pekua upzila, and her two daughters Moyna, 19 and Toha, 8.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Pekua upazila, Md Saiful Islam, said there was heavy rain on Saturday night. As a result, a landslide occurred in Jarul Bunia Segunbagicha area under ward no. 6 of Shilkhali union at around 4 am on Sunday. Three members of the same family, a mother and her two daughters, were killed as they were buried under the land slide.

On information, Upazila Administration and Fire Service teams reached the spot and rescued the bodies.

They have taken necessary measures, UNO Saiful Islam said.
