Woman held with gold bars at Chuadanga border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a female smuggler with three gold bars while she was attempting to smuggle them into India through the Darshana border in Chuadanga.

The woman, identified as Asma Khatun, wife of Wasim from the village of Kamarpara, was apprehended around 12:30 pm on Monday in the Kamarpara border area of Damurhuda Upazila.

According to a press release signed by Lt. Colonel Nazmul Hasan, Commanding Officer of Chuadanga-6 BGB Battalion, the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence. A special patrol team from the Baradi BOP of BGB took position approximately 800 yards inside Bangladeshi territory near border pillar 80/10-R.

At around 12:30 pm, the team intercepted Asma Khatun on a local road and recovered three gold bars weighing 354 grams in total, with an estimated market value of Tk 5,858,756.

Subedar Mohammad Enamul Haque has filed a case at Darshana Police Station in connection with the incident. The arrested woman has been handed over to the police, and the seized gold bars are in the process of being deposited at the Chuadanga Treasury Office.
