Police detained a woman accused of drowning her three months old daughter from Roichpur village in Satkhira Pourashava on Monday.
The detainee was identified as Suraiya Yasmin Mukta, 30, daughter of Muzaffar Hossain, resident of Roichpur village in Satkhira.
Zakir Hossain from Roichpur village said Suraiya Yasmin's daughter Mumtaz Khatun was missing since Sunday afternoon. The child’s relatives recovered her body from the house pond at around 11 pm after searching for a long time. Meanwhile, Suraiya Khatun, the child's mother, was heard confessing to killing her child by drowning her in water. She also lose her mental balance sometimes. She tried to kill his son earlier as well.
Officer-in-Charge of Satkhira Sadar Police Station Mohidul Islam said the mentally imbalanced woman Suraiya Khatun was taken custody. The child’s father filed a case in police station regarding this incident. The body was sent to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.
