Woman burnt to death, husband held

A housewife sustained burn injuries and died as her husband set fire to her body. The incident took place at Kaunia Das Para area under Rajapur union at Jhikargacha upazila in Jashore in the early hours on Wednesday. 

The deceased was identified as Putul Rani, 19, wife of Pradep Kumar, 24, of the area. 

The housewife died around 8.30 am on Wednesday while being taken to Dhaka from Jashore Medical College Hospital.

Putul Rani said to her uncle Sanjoy Kumar before death that her husband Pradep had set on fire her body. Pradep was also slightly burnt in that time. 

Prodep was arrested and he is undergoing treatment at Jashore Medical College Hospital under police custody.

Neighbor Rafiuddin said Pradep and his wife Putul were quarreling at night. Hearing their shouting, he and others came out and saw a fire burning inside the house. Neighbors rescued them and admitted them to Jhikargacha Health Complex.

After receiving the news, police rescued them and sent them to Jashore Medical College Hospital for better treatmentThey alleged that Pradep had set fire to his wife's body due to a quarrel. 

Ahmed Tareq Shams Chowdhury, a doctor at Jashore Medical College Hospital, said the burnt couple was brought to the hospital around 3:30 pm. As the condition of the Putul was serious, She was referred to Dhaka for better treatment at night.

Sanjay Kumar, uncle of the deceased, said Putul Rani died on the way to Gopalganj from Jashore to Dhaka. Sanjay claimed that Putul said Pradep killed her with fire.

Jhikargachha Police Station OC Abdur Razzak said Pradep has been arrested in connection with the murder of the housewife. Pradeep is being treated at the hospital under police guard. A case will process in this regard.
