Winter vegetables of Dinajpur being exported

Vegetables of Dinajpur are now being exported abroad after  meeting the local demand. Farmers of the district are very happy with the satisfactory price of vegetables being produced in their fields. 

Bumper production of winter vegetables are seen in Dinajpur's field. Farmers pile up the products including cabbage, cauliflower, radish, bitter-gourd, brinjal and other varieties of vegetables beside the highways from where wholesale traders purchase those and send to various districts of the country, including capital and abroad.

Not only the farmers are being benefitted by producing vegetables but also the workers, especially women of the district are now happy to work in the vegetables field all the year round. 

Tahmida Begum, of Awliapur Mashimpur village said, few days ago there was no work in that area. At present, we work in the vegetables field all over the year.  Subol Chandra Roy of Birganj village said he planted leafy vegetables in his field and sold the vegetables worth Tk4 lakh  and still there are vegetables of worth Tk1 lakh in the field. The vegetables of his fields are now being exported to 10 countries including  England, Dubai, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong. Abdul Kuddus Miah, a wholesale vegetables trader, said he purchases vegetables from various places of Dinajpur and sends those to Dhaka through trucks. By selling a truck load of vegetables to the Shyambazaar vegetable market he earns at least Tk 30, 000. 

Deputy-Ddirector of Director of Agriculture Extension Md Touhidul Iqbal said a target was fixed to produce winter vegetables at 11,000 hectares of land.
