Winter veg farming starts in Brahmanbaria

In Nabinagar of Brahmanbaria, the farmers of 21 unions of the Upazila and 1 municipality area have increased their activity in vegetable cultivation ahead of winter. The local farmers are spending busy time cultivating and tending various vegetables including tomatoes, beans, barbati, bitter gourd, cauliflower, cabbage, radish, gourd, red cabbage, radish, shrimp, brinjal on the fallow land, yard and roof of the house. They are now earning extra income by meeting the nutritional needs of the family.

 Municipalities Majhikara, Srirampur, Ibrahimpur, Jindpur, Laur-Fatepur, Bitghar, Shivpur, Kaitla Kaitla, Natghar, Vidyakut, Barail, Krishnanagar, Birgaon, Nabinagar. In several areas including Nabinagar Barikandi, Chalimganj, Shyagram, Ratanpur, Satmora, Municipalities, it can be seen that the farmers are busy with various types of winter vegetables. Farmers run from dawn to tend the vegetable fields. Some are also selling vegetables in the local market.

According to the Agricultural Extension Office, seeds of short term vegetables and medium term climbing vegetables have been distributed free of cost to the farmers as government assistance. A farmer is given seeds of various types of vegetables including red radish, dateshak, kalmishak, puishak, spinach, cucumber, sweet pumpkin, bitter gourd.

The farmer of Srirampurer said. Tahar Mia said that gourd, bitter gourd, red cabbage and tomatoes are grown in the local way without using any kind of pesticides and chemical fertilizers in the 70th century farm adjacent to the house. Then care, water, manure and other work including making the loft are done. I have been selling gourd and red cabbage for the past 10 days. Nabinagar vegetable farmer. Motahar Hossain said - I planted early varieties of tomatoes, cauliflower, gourds and red branches in the 60th century land in the native method. It costs around 35,000 taka for land, loft construction, seedlings and other expenses. The crop has been good despite some damage to vegetables due to rains. Among them, the sale of early varieties of gourds has started and care is being taken for other vegetables.

Farmer Golap Mia said - At one time nothing was done in the 80th century land adjacent to the house. I have been growing vegetables for the past 5 years. In this season, I have cultivated gourd, radish, red vegetables, brinjal, tomato. It cost 50 thousand rupees. Selling gourd, red vegetables, radish in local market. I hope this land will earn 50-55 thousand rupees excluding all expenses.

Upazila Agriculture Worker Jaglul Haider said that various types of vegetables are being cultivated in different areas of this upazila throughout the year. Free distribution of short term vegetable and medium term vining vegetable seeds to farmers, local farmers are always advised to increase yield.
