Winning start for Abahani, Rahmatganj MFS

Abahani Limited and Rahmatganj MFS made their Bangladesh Premier League Football with wining note after defeating their respective opponents on Saturday.

After the goal galore opening day of the league on Friday, in the second day on Saturday, two matches were held at two different venues.

On the opening day, 16 goals were scored, when the defending champions Banshundhara Kings and the runners up Mohammedan Sporting Club made flying start in the league with scoring seven and six goals against their respective opponents.

Holder Kings at their Kings arena hosted Chittagong Abahani when they just trounced the distracted Chittagong Abahani Limited by 7-0 and the runners up Mohamedan thrashed their old foes Dhaka Wonderers Club by 6-0 and Brothers Union won by 2-1 against Bangladesh police Club.

However, on Saturday, Abahani Limited defeated Fakirerpool Youngmens Club by 2-0.

Held at the Shahid Barkat Stadium, Gazipur, the former champions Abahani Limited had to struggle a bit when they had to wait to make the breakthrough up to 70 minutes.  

However, after a goalless first half, Emmanuel led Abahani on 71st minute and Jafar sealed the victory for the six times league champions with striking in the third minute of added time (2-0).

Meanwhile, it was the first match of the Bangladesh Premier League at it’s new venue at Shahid Barkat Stadium.

Rahmatganj MFS also began their campaign of the league with a comfortable 3-1 win over Fortis FC at at Birshreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj on Saturday. .

All four goals of the match were scored in the second half when Rahmatganj scored their three goals inside 10 minutes with Oshie opening the score on 59th minute with Ghanaian midfielder Mamoud Oshie broke the stalemate. Taj Uddin doubled the advantage on 67th minute. Felix scored the third one for the Old Dhaka outfit just two minutes later to confirme the win (3-0).

Defender Monjurur Rahman Manik netted a lone goal for Fortis to reduce one for the Fortis on 74th minute.
