National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam today vowed to free Gopalganj from Mujibbad after holding a ‘Red March’ there.

“We will return home after freeing Gopalganj from Mujibbad by holding a Long March. We must free Gopalganj, the centre for sheltering the fascists and their cohorts and the people of Gopalganj from Mujibbad,” he said.

He was addressing a rally at Janatar Mor in the district on the 17th day of their month-long July March demanding justice, reforms and a new Constitution. Nahid called upon the authorities concerned to apprehend the terrorists of the fascists involved in Wednesday’s attack on the NCP in Gopalganj.

“Don’t harass the commoners in connection with the incident,” he said. He voiced a note of warning for those who wanted to establish a refined Awami League.

Nahid Islam said they will announce a programme from the Central Shaheed Minar demanding the July Charter after completing July March on August 3 next.

NCP central leaders Sarjis Alam, Hasnat Abdullah, Aktar Hossain, Nasir Uddin Patwary, Samantha Sarmin, Dr Tasnim Jara, among others, were present.

NCP Chief Coordinator of Faridpur district Nilima Dula and Joint Coordinator Saif Khan, were also present.

In Rajbari, Nahid Islam said Awami League is not a political party but a ‘terrorist organisation’, alleging that it is responsible for enforced disappearances, killings, and widespread disorder in the country.

He emphasized the need to confront the Awami League not only legally but also politically.

Nahid Islam made the remark while addressing a rally as the chief

guest at the Shaheed Muktijoddha Memorial Square here this afternoon.

Speaking at the rally, NCP’s Chief Organiser (Southern Region) Hasnat Abdullah said, “Yesterday in Gopalganj, the Awami League planned to kill Nahid, Khalid, Hasanat, Sarjis, and others, believing that eliminating them would end the NCP's movement.”

He alleged that Awami League had mobilized its armed forces from across the country for this purpose.

“We are entrusting you with the responsibility to keep the movement alive, even if we are perished,” he told the audience.

NCP’s Chief Organiser (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam said, “Bangladesh will only truly turn around when the Awami League will be eliminated from the country.”

Central leaders, including Khaled Saifullah and Dr. Tasnim Zara, among others, also spoke the rally.
