A Brahmanbaria court sentenced a woman to three years in jail for killing her husband over extra-marital affair and his step brother to life in prison in the same case.
The victim was identified as Shafiqul Islam, husband of the convict Mosamat Mariam, 25, who is the daughter of Lal Miah, hailing from Ibrahimpur village and the step brother is Md. Jasim, 26, son of Idris Molla, of Sahebnagar village under Ibrahimpur union of the upazila.
Judge Md. Shafiul Azam of district and session judge’s court of Brahmanbaria delivered the verdict on Thursday (August 29).
Mariam was present at the court, but Jasim was absconding. According to court sources, Shafiqul caught Jasim and Mariam while they’re having an intimate time on the night of October 3 of 2012. Later, both of them strangled Shafiqul to death. They also buried him hurriedly.
Afterwards, a cousin of Shafiqul-Rajon filed the case on October 25. Assistant Public Prosecutor (ASP) of the court and lawyer for the state Dwin Islam expressed satisfaction over the verdict.
