White Panel loses president, secretary in Dhaka bar polls

Pro-independence White Panel lost almost all the vital posts including of president and general secretary in the polls to elect the office bearers for 2020-2021 of Dhaka Bar Association, reports BSS.

White Panel managed to grab 13 posts, where its senior vice-president candidate Abdul Kader, vice-president Imam Hossain Monju, senior assistant-general secretary AKM Habibur Rahman Chunnu, assistant-general secretary Sikder Mohammad Akteruzzaman Himel, library secretary Md Ataur Rahman Khan Ruku, cultural affairs secretary Taslima Akter Rikta, sports secretary Saiful Islam Sumon and social welfare secretary Shaila Pervin Pia won.

AHM Shafikul Islam Sohag, Mehedi Hasan Merin, Ramjan Ali Sarder Rana, Sabbir Hossain and Saiful Islam were elected as executive committee members from the White Panel. Pro-BNP Blue Panel clinched 10 posts including almost all the vital ones, as Md Iqbal Hossain and Hossain Ali Khan Hasan were elected as president and general secretary from the panel respectively.

Blue Panel’s Abdullah Al Mamun and HM Masum were elected as treasurer and office secretary respectively. Its Azhar Uddin Ripon, Qazi Afroza Sultana (Eva), Abdul Baset Rakhi, Tanvir Hasan Sohel, Yasin Miah, and Sadekul Islam Bhuiyan (Jadu) were elected as executive committee members. A total of 9,299 members exercised their franchise in the two-day polls that took place on February 26 and 27.

Senior lawyer Advocate Munsi Fakhrul Islam conducted the polls as chief election commissioner with the help of 10 commissioners and 100 polling officers.
