Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives Minister M Tajul Islam has said, be it a minister or a rickshaw puller, at the end of the day, all are citizens of this country, so wherever development happens in the country, it will benefit all.
“I believe there will be huge development in Narayanganj. Councilors are also very popular here. If we do good work, we will benefit from the results,” he said.
He made the comments at an exchange meeting with the newly elected mayor and councilors of Narayanganj City Corporation at Nagar Bhaban on Thursday.
The minister said that the country has many perks. It is hot, and winter is not severe, and the soil is fertile. Bangabandhu understood that the country had immense potential. He fought for fair rights and brought freedom in order to build a ‘Sonar Bangla’ (Golden Bangladesh).
He said, “If we had followed the policies adopted by Bangabandhu, we would have become a developed country by the year 2000. All over the world, local government institutions need to be strengthened. They manage to earn income and develop their area.”
The minister said that Narayanganj has huge potential in terms of business, industry and literature. The newly appointed mayor has a lot of talent, intelligence and honesty. When people realise paying Tk 5000 can benefit them worth Tk 5 lakh, they will not hesitate to pay.
The Minister further said that sometimes overlap occurs in terms of the money designated for roads.
“I have said that no money will be given without an ID number. This will stop the overlapping. I have also asked to provide me with five street ID numbers every day,” he said.
Instructions have been given. This will stop the irregularities. Income should be earned within the rules. This way everyone can be happy and the city corporation will be developed, he added.
Mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation Dr Selina Hayat Ivy and councilors were present at the occasion.
