The Kurigram Zila Parishad on Tuesday distributed a total of 40 wheelchairs and dinner packets among physically-challenged persons on the occasion of the National Mourning Day.
The event was organised in front of Dakbunglow in the district.
The wheelchairs were given free-of-cost to make the physically-challenged people self-reliant by removing their mobility problems.
Kurigram Zila Parishad official sources said that the office organised various activities including giving scholarship among poor and meritorious students in the district, training on computer, freelancing, poultry and sewing for poor women to build up them as self-reliant.
Zila Parishad chief executive officer Faridul Islam said that a good number of women became self-reliant taking training from the office.
‘They are now maintaining their respective family by a good earning,’ he added.
