Farmers of Chuadanga districthave achieved bumper yield of wheat this yearthan the previous years. Some farmers of the district said that they achieved bumper yield of wheat due to favourable weather and other
facilities. Local farmers informed thata total of 3, 738 tonnes of wheat are being expected to beproduced in 1,068 hectares of land in the district this seasonwhere 2, 698 tonnesof wheat were produced last season.
According to the sources of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) of Chuadanga, about 1,068 hectares of land were broughtunder wheat cultivation this season whereas a total of 771 hectares of land were brought under the wheat cultivation last season.
The sources added that a total of 51 hectares of land were brought under wheat cultivation in Chuadanga Sadar Upazila, while 690 hectares of land in AlamdangaUpazila, 170 hectares of land in Damurhuda and 157 hectares of land in Jibannagar Upazila.
A total of 178.50tonnes of wheat are being expected to be produced in Chuadanga Sadar Upazila, while 2415 tonnesin Alamdanga Upazila, 595 tonnesin Damurhuda Upazila and 549.50 tonnesin Jibannagar Upazila.
DAE officials are expecting to produce 3, 738 tonnes of wheat from the four upazilasin the district
this season.
Farmers in upazilassowed the seeds of wheat in November last. The harvesting will begin in the last week of this month (March).
Talking to the Bangladesh Post, Safiqul Islam, a farmer of Bujrukgorgori in Chuadanga Sadar Upazila, said, “It is a crop of fallseason.
Itneeds dry weather and bright sunlight. No infestation or other insectattack occurred this year. As a result, production cost of wheat is estimated low.”
Mohammad Ali Hasan, Deputy Director of Chuadanga DAE, said that farmers are returning to their traditional wheat production. DAE advices farmers to follow a diverse crop cultivation culture.
