What is the main purpose of CPD?

With eleven days left for the country’s 12th parliamentary election all eyes are now fixed on the Election Commission’s (EC) preparations and poll environment as well.

The EC and the government are completing all-out preparations to hold the general election slated for January 7 in a free, fair and peaceful manner. The foreign countries are also closely monitoring the electoral environment.

But, we have noticed CPD (Centre for policy Dialogue) always tries to find fault with the government before and after national election. Now the question crops up, does the CPD work only to look for others’ faults?  It is a matter of regret that the CPD has been looking for the loopholes of the government over the last 15 years.

All believe that the poll will be held in a free, fair and credible manner as the people spontaneously will exercise their right to franchise to choose their leaders in a disciplined way. And this election will take place in a freer, fairer and more credible manner than those in the past.

So, the nation is going to get a fair, free and interference-free election with the participation of country’s most of the political parties. Common people’s attachment to the polls process has already drawn attention in the global arena.

Except some stray incidents of arson terrorism the law and order is almost normal and peaceful across the country. An election mood has already gripped the country.

Securities of all the voters will be ensured at any cost on the day of balloting. The EC and local administrations have been working relentlessly so that the voters can return to their respective residences safely after casting their votes.

All the agencies concerned, including the law-enforcement ones, have already started rendering their duties properly to make the election peaceful.

But, the Centre for Policy Dialogue at a press conference said that about Taka 92,000 crore was plundered from the banking sector in 15 years.

We strongly condemn such CPD report based on some newspaper cuttings. We think the CPD deliberately has published the report in order to divert people’s attention before the national election.

The report of CPD is flawed and completely politically motivated. It published the report to defame the state as well as the people of the country through blind criticism.

Now the CPD published report to give a political agenda to the opposition party. We definitely think that the report is fully politically motivated.

Therefore, since the CPD has brought allegations of irregularities, the think tank must say where the money is. It should provide detailed information so thatthe government can bring the money back to the country.

The CPD must prove the allegation that Tk 92,000 crore was siphoned out of the banking sector in last 15 years. It seems CPD had not conducted genuine research.

Preparing a study based on some newspaper cuttings, cannot be a research report. CPD did not do any research and its statement is nothing but an outright lie.

All raised questions over CPD’s latest report whether the think tank is out to make the election controversial like BNP-Jamaat clique as it knows none can thwart the

general election.

As there is no possibility of victory for some elements, CPD has extended its all-out cooperation to the defeated forces and vested interest groups in order to create confusion among the people by any means just ahead of the national poll.

BNP has no political base without hatching conspiracy and making falsehood. It seems the BNP in association with anti-liberation, defeated and communal forces, and some elements has hired some organisations, intellectuals and statement-givers at home and abroad with looted money to malign the government and they are trying to mislead people through spreading false and fake information either through press conference or on social media.

Therefore, all should stay alert so that none can snatch away the rights of the people through hatching. At the same time, everyone should remain cautious so that none can create confusion to ruin the next poll.
