Nearly 1,000 smallholder farmers in Joypurhat are becoming self-reliant through agricultural inputs, training, and financial support provided by WeGro, an innovative agri-fintech platform promoting high-value farming across Bangladesh.

Many farmers have already completed several successful farming cycles with WeGro’s credit assistance, while others are engaged in crop cultivation and livestock rearing. Recently, more than 50 farmers and their families gathered in Akkelpur Upazila to reflect on their achievements over the last two years. To date, around 130 farmers in Akkelpur have benefited from WeGro’s comprehensive support.

“We are delighted to celebrate these milestones with the farmers. Our mission is to empower them, transforming their livelihoods and contributing to the modernization of Bangladesh’s agriculture sector,” said WeGro COO Faiyaz Safir.

In addition to providing loans, WeGro supplies quality seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, modern farming technologies, and digital tools to ensure sustainable and profitable agricultural production. The platform currently supports over 12,000 farmers across more than 40 upazilas nationwide.

Since its inception, WeGro has disbursed approximately $10.2 million in credit and reimbursed $7.8 million, highlighting the program’s effectiveness. Arif Rahman, Head of Business Development at WeGro, emphasized their vision to position farmers as a key driving force in the national economy.

Monjurul Alam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Akkelpur, who attended the event as the chief guest, expressed optimism about WeGro’s continued support for farmers’ growth and success.

WeGro’s innovative approach has earned it several accolades, including the Best Startup Innovation Award and Best Innovation in Agriculture Award at the Bangladesh Innovation Awards 2023, as well as the winner’s award at the Singapore Fintech Festival 2024.
