A weeklong tree plantation and tree fair began in Pabna on Saturday.
Pabna social forest division has organised the tree plantation and fair with the cooperation of the district administration under way at the Freedom Fighter Rafiqul Islam Bakul Swadhinata Chatwar.
Golam Faruk Khandakar Prince, lawmaker for Pabna-5 constituency, inaugurated the fair as chief guest.
Pabna divisional forest officer and member secretary of the tree fair-2023 celebration committee Kashyapi Bikas Chandra delivered welcome speech at the inaugural programme, which was presided over by Pabna deputy commissioner Md Asaduzzaman.
Among others, Pabna zila parishad chairman freedom fighter ASM Abdur Rahim Pakon, Pabna district Awami League president Mohammad Rezaul Rahim Lal, Pabna police superintendent Md Akbar Ali Munsi, deputy director of agriculture extension department Md Jamal Uddin, Pabna sadar upazila chairman Md Mosharof Hossain spoke at the programme.
The speakers of the programme said that there was no alternative to planting trees to maintain the balance of the environment as it was impossible for any species to survive alone.
Some 29 stalls have been placed in the fair at the Rafiqul Islam Bakul Swadhinata Chatwar, which will continue till September 08.
