A seven-day tree plantation campaign and tree fair commenced in Narail on Thursday under the slogan "Let’s do planned afforestation, build a green Bangladesh."
The initiative, jointly organised by the District Administration and the Forest Department, was inaugurated at 11:00am at the premises of the District Shilpakala Academy.
Deputy Commissioner Sharmin Akhter Jahan formally opened the event, with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Lincon Biswas presiding over the ceremony.
Among those present were Julia Sukayna, Deputy Director of the Local Government Department, Md Ahsan Mahmud Russel, ADC (Education and ICT), Md Jasim Uddin, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Acting District Education Officer Md Mohiuddin, District Fisheries Officer H.M. Badruzzaman, Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Rokonuzzaman, Forest Department Officer Md Giasuddin, District Sports Officer Md Kamruzzaman, and Vice-President of Narail Press Club, Sultan Mahmood.
Following the inauguration, a variety of fruit, medicinal, and forest saplings were distributed free of charge among students from local educational institutions.
Ten stalls have been set up at the fair, showcasing an array of saplings and tree-related materials. After the opening ceremony, the invited guests toured the exhibition stalls.
The campaign aims to promote environmental awareness and encourage sustainable greening across the region.
