The week-long tree plantation campaign and tree fair in Cox’s Bazar concluded with a closing ceremony held at Shaheed Daulat Maidan of the Public Library premises on Thursday. The event was organised by the District Administration and the Forest Department under the theme “Let’s practise planned afforestation to build a greener Bangladesh.”
The closing ceremony featured a discussion session and prize distribution. Nilufa Yasmin Chowdhury, the UNO of Sadar Upazila, attended as the chief guest. In her speech, she emphasised the vital role trees play in our ecosystem, calling them “true friends of humanity.”
She warned that anyone involved in illegal tree felling would face legal action and encouraged everyone to take part in tree planting to maintain ecological balance.
The event was presided over by Md. Nurul Islam, Divisional Forest Officer (South), and also featured remarks from Maruf Hossain, Divisional Forest Officer (North), journalist Momtaz Uddin Bahari, and Saiful Haque, President of the Nursery Owners’ Association, among others.
Government and NGO officials, nursery owners, and students were present at the fair. Later, awards were presented to the best stalls. This year’s fair featured 35 stalls and sold 12,935 saplings of various species, amounting to Tk 1,676,750 in total sales.
