Website of India’s first ombudsman launched

The website of India’s first national anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal set up to probe graft charges against people in high public office was launched here on Thursday by its Chairperson Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose.

The portal provides the basic information with respect to the working and functioning of the Lokpal which is the first institution of its kind in independent India established under the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act of 2013 to inquire and investigate into allegations of corruption against public functionaries who fall within the scope and ambit of the Act.

The government appointed Justice Ghose as the first head of the Lokpal who was administered oath on March 23 this year the President of India. The Government has also appointed four judicial and four non-judicial members on the anti-graft body.

The process of notifying the rules and regulations including the format for receiving complaints is being developed. All complaints received till April16 this year have been examined by the Office of Lokpal and disposed of accordingly. The complaints received thereafter are under examination, an official statement said.
