Inspector General of Police Dr Benazir Ahmed on Saturday said they are working on making police worthy of a developed Bangladesh (in 2041) as envisioned by the premier Sheikh Hasina while inaugurating a police barrack in city’s Uttara area.
He said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working on turning Bangladesh into a developed country by 2041. And we are working towards making police suitable for such a developed country through necessary reforms and changes in every field of policing.”
“The police force of a developed country should take service to the doorstep of the people by dint of beat policing. Meanwhile, we have to behave humanely, not cruelly with our citizens,” he added.
However, Benazir issued a stern warning against drug abuse among police personnel. Referring to the cancer treatment, he said, “If a person is diagnosed with cancer, the affected organ is cut and removed from the body. If any member of the police is involved in drugs, he will also be ruthlessly removed from police.”
DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam presided over the function. Additional IGP Md. Mainur Rahman Chowdhury and Deputy Managing Director of Abul Khair Group Md. Abu Saeed Chowdhury, among others, addressed the programme.
Chiefs of various units of DMP, Additional IGPs and other senior police officers were also present at the programme.
