Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh does not have any role in adverse impact of climate change but is the country which is suffering the most, report agencies.

“But we know how to tackle natural calamities,” the PM added while inaugurating a seminar at the city called, Dhaka Global Dialogue 2019 on Monday. The seminar will discuss how Bangladesh and other similar countries will create a link with other countries through Indo-pacific strategy and belt and road initiative. Ministers from fifty nations, politicians, diplomats, bureaucrats will take part at the event.

“We have formed a trust fund from our own sources to face natural disasters,” said the PM and added “Bangladesh has received recognition as a developing country and we need to retain this status; at present, 94 percent people are getting power.” Emphasising the importance of the sea and ocean, she said “In this region, 80 percent trade is carried over waterways and the oceans are repositories of fish, minerals and other resources. But we must be careful that we do not exhaust the aquatic resources.”

By the Indian ocean, live 35 percent of the world’s population or people of forty least developed countries while near the Bay of Bengal, there are six nations and the lives of people in these countries are influenced by the sea, said the PM. For economic security of the people, stability has to be maintained on the oceans.

Identifying poverty as the main enemy in the region, the PM said “If we work together then we will be able to tackle this.” Speaking on the Rohingyas, she added “Our foreign policy is based on the philosophy of friendship with all and enmity towards none; we have given refuge to 1.1 million Rohingyas and are in discussion with Myanmar to resolve the issue peacefully and not through conflict.” There will be problems if one has a neighbour but with India we solved the Chitmahal issue which is an example for the world. “Once we work for peace, stability will follow,” the PM observed.
