We must be prepared to face the challenges of LDC and utmost importance should be given to the issue. For this, the government as well as the private sectors have to come forward, said Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi.

“Bangladesh will graduate LDC in 2026. This is good news for us on the one hand and challenging on the other. We have to face this challenges by using our experience and skills,” he said.

The Minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the concluding ceremony of a workshop titled ‘National workshop on the proposed time-bound action plan of the two LDC graduation related sub-committees: Preferential market access and trade agreement and WTO issues’ organized by the Ministry of Commerce at Parjatan Bhaban in Dhaka on Sunday.

He said, “After LDC graduation, we will not have access to many trade opportunities. We will have to compete with the developed world. The European Union will offer us GSP plus trade facilities, but we have to meet many conditions. Trade agreements like PTA or FTA will be required to avail trade benefits.”

Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Ahmad Kaikaus spoke as a special guest on the occasion.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Planning Commission’s member Sharifa Khan and FBCCI President Md Jasim Uddin were present during this time, among others.
